Easter Egg Hunt Brunch

Photography by Small Fry Contributing Photographer Lindsey Orton.

Jenna has thrown our boys and their friends an Easter Egg Hunt now for three years running and we love getting to watch all these tiny friends play together, hunt for eggs, munch Awful Waffles (not awful in the slightest), and enjoy the fickle Spring weather. Luckily the sun was shining and we could shed our winter coats just in time!

Because food is generally what makes our world spin ’round, here’s what we ate:

We were so grateful to the Awful Waffle for setting up their shop at our party and serving hot-off-the-griddle thick, Liege style, Belgian waffles. Drenched in Speculoos, strawberries, whipped cream, we were all in heaven!

The Awful Waffle just opened up a brand new location right in the heart of Provo: 602 E. 600 South in the Village Complex. The store front is absolutely gorgeous and when you step in you really feel transported to some chic European cafe.

Photos by Lindsey OrtonTo balance out all the sweet, Jenna made her famous Ham and Cheese Sliders. They are so ridicuously delicious and are pretty much legend around these parts. A party isn’t complete without them. Recipe below! Photo by Lindsey Orton

We cannot thank the Awful Waffle enough for feeding us so deliciously. The owner, Ashley is a passionate hard working mom and has executed her vision so beautifully. Any locals, hurry to 6th street to check it out! We hear kids eat for $1 on Tuesdays, lucky ducks.

Ham & Cheese Sliders

24 good white rolls
24 pieces good honey ham  (thick cut, not deli-style)
24 small slices swiss cheese
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup miracle whip

{Poppy Seed Mustard sauce}

1 1/2 T. poppy seeds
1 1/2 T. yellow mustard
1 stick butter, melted
1 T. minced onion
1/2 tsp. worschestershire sauce

In a small bowl, mix together mayo & miracle whip. Spread into both halves of each roll. Place a slice of ham & a slice of swiss inside of each roll. Close rolls & place into a large baking dish or heavy cookie sheet. Place very close together.

In a medium bowl, whisk together all of the poppy seed sauce ingredients. Pour evenly over all of the sandwiches. Let sit 10 minutes, or until butter sets slightly. Cover with foil & bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Uncover & cook for 2 additional minutes. Serve warm.

Jenna’s sliders are amazing. I can almost taste them as I just read the title on the recipe. She made them for Emily’s baby shower pre-Hayes and I loved not only the taste but the melt in your mouth buttery tops. And that you can fill a 9 x 13 pan with pre-assembled sliders and then pull out a hot pan of sliders for a crowd. FIVE STARS, JENNA!
