We have been so excited to share this little film collaboration with Musana Jewelry with you readers just in time for Mother’s Day! Musana is not only a line of jewelry, but it also represents the empowerment of the women of Uganda, Africa. Musana offers employment and salary, literacy training, counsel on healthy living, financial guidance and assistance with setting up a plan for savings to these women. Any extra profits Musana receives goes back into the community. When Musana connected us with three of their artisans in Uganda to be sort of pen-pals we were so humbled. We know we are incredibly blessed, that even with our individual trials and hardships, we have it so easy in comparison. The challenges we face here in America are nothing when stacked up against what Harriet, Cissy and Christina overcome every day. We spent some time feeling so spoiled and guilty, and then we realized that now that we know better, we can do better. We will never take our comforts, ease of life, our opportunities, health, and safety for granted again.
Harriet, Cissy and Christina each asked us a specific question and we sent them questions as well. Our lives could not be more different, yet as mothers we are connected. We are bonded in our experiences, the scene may look different but at the core it is universal. Whether a mother rocks her baby to sleep in Uganda or Utah, we all wish and want the same things for our children. We each want to be remembered for being a wonderful mother, for teaching our children to be good citizens of this world and to know their infinite worth. As we prepare to celebrate the mothers in our lives this week, we are so grateful for the nudge to extend our limits to include honoring mothers all over the world. We hope you will, too!
Thanks to Musana for arranging this awesome opportunity. They are posting several other bloggers filmed questions on their blog every day until Mother’s Day, check it out here.
