tiny tourist : Midway, Utah

We thought it was high time we submitted our own post for Tiny Tourist! Since the series is all about getting out an adventuring, we figured we’d go out of our comfort zone and explore a small town just thirty minutes away from our front doors, but drastically different than our everyday.tinytouristheader Midway is a darling little Swiss-settled town, rich in heritage and charm. It’s absolutely gorgeous and here are our five picks for your next Midway adventure:

1. Homestead Resort.

This resort could fill this tour on its own, it is far and away the most family-friendly resort we’ve stayed at. Spread out over many acres, you can find yourself staying in a barn or a cottage. It would be absolutely ideal for a large group or family reunion as you have lots of room to spill out to the grassy areas, playgrounds, ponds, BBQ areas, pools and more. Homestead has golf, tennis, and any lawn game you can think of and children are happily playing everywhere you look, but with plenty of room to spread out, everything still feels peaceful.

2. The Crater.

The Crater is a natural hot spring inside, you guessed it, a crater! It is right on the Homestead’s property so you can walk over and take a dip anytime! It is such a beautiful piece of nature, and our kids had a blast!

Carrying passengers through the mountains and canyons from Heber to Provo, these restored passenger cars have you feeling like you took a step back in time. Every year they host Thomas the Train (May 24-27 this year!) and it is memorable to say the least! Head here for more info on the Heber Creeper and the Day out with Thomas.

4. Homestead Saturday Summer Concerts.

Every Saturday until the end of August, free concerts are held on Homestead’s lawn. Bluegrass, country, folk and more, these concerts are fun for all music tastes and judging by the group of kids dancing front row, totally family-friendly. See the rest of their Summer line-up here.Tiny Tourist : Midway, Utah

5. Dairy Keen Restaurant

Dairy Keen is one of those must-see stops on your way to Midway or Park City. It’s an institution, open since the late Sixties! With great American style food, delicious shakes, and trains galore (watch them circle the restaurant inside, or play on the kid-sized train cars outside) its a perfectly delicious option and lots of fun for the kids, too.

Tiny Tourist : Midway, UtahMidway is an awesome central little town about thirty minutes from Provo or Salt Lake City, less than twenty minutes from Park City and away from the bustle of the city. It’s lush, green, mountainous and beautiful and the perfect respite from busy life. We highly recommend!

What a great post you guys! Midway really is a little piece of heaven. I’ve lived in Heber for 2 years now and I just found out about that crater. I’m dying to get over there and check it out!
