giant airplanes

You’ve heard of the epic group texts amongst the three of us, literally the pages of texts could wrap the globe a few times, it’s astounding. One day in particular, Nicole asked who  of us knew how to fold an airplane, per Dash’s request. Jenna sent the “shrugging” emoticon, and as it turns out only one of us knew how. As mothers to boys, you see how this need could go on no longer.

So, today, for any of you other mothers who haven’t needed to whip out a paper airplane: a quick tutorial! And might we suggest a little extra magic by making them out of giant poster board? The sheer joy on their faces was worth the extra couple bucks.

Here’s a quick step by step:planes2

1. Fold your piece of paper, or poster, in half. Any which ways will do.

2. Once it’s creased, open it back up. Take the top left corner and bring it toward the #1 crease creating a triangle. Crease this fold and repeat on the the right corner. This will give your #2 set of creases.

3. After you have two triangular folds, take each side and repeat. This time instead of grabbing the top corners to fold over, picture your paper like a house. Grab the paper right where the “roof” meets the “foundation” and pull that over to the #1 center crease and crease again on both sides.

4. Flip it over and pull the top folds away from #1, #2 creases, creating the wings. The #1, #2 creases are now your handles. You’ll want to tape or staple them together for a more aero-dynamic plane.
