Tiny Tourist : London

Yet another Summer series we couldn’t bear to part with, apparently we have a problem letting go! Today’s Tiny Tourist is extra special because we’re traveling out of the USA to London, United Kingdom! Tiny Tourist Series | Small Fry

Hello! I’m Casey Matheny of Heels on the Bus. My little family and I moved to London a year ago from NYC, and we love every minute of it! London is the most gorgeous and charming city to raise a family in, and you wouldn’t believe how many year-round activities are offered for children. Even the rain can’t put a damper on our fun! Here are just a few of our favorite activities.

1. Kensington Memorial Park: This is THE place to be when the hot Summer days leave you begging for swimsuit attire.  The kids are in absolute heaven as they run through the colorful splash pad. And on those cooler days, there is a large playground complete with rocket ship climbing frames, zip lines, and a sandbox.Tiny Tourist | London

2. Diana Memorial Playground: By far the coolest playground in the city. With ropes, pulleys, and a crow’s nest, the pirate ship is the main attraction to the park. That said, there are two other playgrounds for younger kiddies including play houses, swings, teepees, and a musical area. This playground is any kid’s wonderland. And as a bonus, it is centrally located in Hyde Park.

3. Greenwich: This adorable neighborhood is just south of the Thames River and makes for a perfect family day trip. We head to Embankment Pier and hop on the Thames Clipper to start our fun. Once in Greenwich, kids can run free in the National Maritime Museum, venture aboard the Cutty Sark tea clipper, and then settle down for a nice family lunch at Greenwich Market.

4. Science Museum: On those cold rainy London afternoons, you will undoubtedly find me and Harper at The Garden in the basement of the Science Museum. There are loads of hands-on multi-sensory experiences, Harper’s favorite being the elaborate water table. Best part: it’s FREE!

My husband and I were just in London earlier this summer without our nearly 2-year old daughter. We passed the Diana Memorial Playground and literally stood there in awe of it for a few moments, knowing if (when) we return with our girl we would HAVE to stop there (a few times, most likely). An incredible playground. Great tips – thanks!

Thank you for the tips! We’d love to visit London with our kid soon. He can’t wait to meet Peter Pan! Uh oh… Well, at least he will enjoy the pirate ship 🙂 Best regards from Barcelona, Spain

We lived in London from 1998-2002 with our two daughters – our youngest was born in there. I agree London is a wonderful place to raise children – there’s so much to do. I would also add to your list children’s’ shows at the Angel Theater in Islington and the Tricycle theater in Kilburn, Queens Park playground and cafe, Kenwood House in the Hampstead Heath (especially for Sunday Breakfast followed by a walk in the Heath), Windsor Castle (Queen Mary’s Doll House), Hampton Court Palace (the maze). If you get a chance to get out of London, we loved Hever Castle (water maze), Leeds Castle, the Cotswolds, Cornwall, the Lake District, Bath, Stonehenge and Chatsworth. Every site has something wonderful for children and the beauty of the sites in unparalleled! Hope you enjoy your stay in London.
