All I Want for Christmas

By Emily.

Last Christmas I was pretty pregnant and in tears complaining to Russ about our mattress.  It was expensive and THE WORST. We had it for probably 8 years and it looked like the tetons with its sinking sides and peak in the middle. I was ready to get a new bed that very day, but my conservative spender husband said he’d only be okay with such a purchase if we researched all options. So we did! For a year we read, tested, asked around, saved up, when finally we decided! I thought any of you out there on the same hunt might like a recap, so let’s go!

But, first, here’s me being super cool posing on my new bed:Intellibed ReviewThe mattress we were on last Christmas was a pillow-top and we knew how that ended up. 😉 So our research began with memory foam. It feels amazing at first, but here’s what I learned with reading up.

  • Foam breaks down quickly (as much as 25% in the first 2 years)
  • Foam compresses and creates painful pressure points and uneven wear
  • Some foams can contain toxic chemicals

Intellibed ReviewThat brought us to gel bed options, and at this point we had slept in an Intellibed at my mom’s Bed and Breakfast The Yardley Inn & Spa in Manti, UT (so cute, if you’re around you gotta stay there!) We loved the Intellibed I knocked their door down to get a review and discount set up for you guys and so gratefully they agreed! (Use smallfry10 for 10% off!)Intellibed ReviewSo here’s what I LOVE about the Intellibed, we went with the Posture Perfect King size:

They have a 30 year guarantee. Our last mattress lasted around 4 years and that was 3 longer than I wanted to keep sleeping on it. So I figure with the guarantee you’re paying pennies a day to sleep on the Intellibed. And then on top of that they do financing options too, which made the investment feel less daunting to me.

After a month of use (it arrived the end of November and yeah right I wasn’t going to wait until Christmas to sleep on it!) I am obsessed with it. It is incredibly comfortable. Since there’s no compressing of foams or pillow-tops you sort of perch on top of the bed,  and it has relieved all my normal pressure points. My posture is better than ever, and I had the worst posture to begin with, and my back just doesn’t hurt when I wake up like it used to. The first handful of days sleeping on the bed both Russ and I were weirded out, it’s a different sensation when you’re used to your tetons bed, it’s not like settling in and getting cozy, it’s an entirely different experience, but one that has improved both our sleep and our back / hip pain.

Temperature cooled — you know the other side of the pillow? That cool refreshing feeling? This bed stays cool all night which Russ LOVES and I never knew I needed it, too!

Another huge selling point for us was that its non-toxic and emits no off gassing. Intellibed has done both their own research and pulled from others and has found that the toxins released from typical mattresses’ off-gassing is attributed to both Autism and SIDS. All three of my boys would end up rolling on their tummies and it freaked me out with the link to SIDS. Eliminating off-gassing gives me so much more relief knowing I can’t always control when they roll not heir tummies but I can control the chemicals and toxins that they might be inhaling while they sleep! I have heard they’re selling crib mattresses THIS YEAR and I can’t wait to grab one. Intellibed ReviewThese are just a few of the reasons, you can read all their features and benefits right here! As always ask me any questions you might have, I know an investment like this can be overwhelming, but I am truly so happy with ours and our decision to go with Intellibed would’ve happened regardless of their willingness to partner up!
