Natural History Museum of Utah

Last week if you follow us on Instagram you saw a quick tour of the Natural History Museum of Utah! They invited us up for a VIP tour and a peek at their new exhibit, Poison! We’re giving away 4 tickets on our Instagram today, so be sure and enter for a free trip with your own fam!

Right when you walk in you’ll see this three+ story glass wall filled with artifacts. Its so stunning and a feast for the eyes!IMG_1575Then the tour started with a VIP look at the Paleontology lab. They have headsets for everyone and I found that Cal paid so much closer attention when he could constantly hear the guide. Even if he was wandering away he was still in ear shot. I learned so much more too! (Probably because Raleigh was asleep and I was as free as a bird (with a baby strapped to me)FullSizeRender We watched them dig bones and learned all about the full skeletons they’ve been finding in Southern Utah! So cool. NHMUThe museum is so gorgeous from the architecture down to the art on the walls. This is the dinosaur exhibit. I loved the art work that stretched out across the whole exhibit.NHMUAfter learning so much about the indigenous animals and plants of Utah, we were able to see the Poison exhibit. See poisonous frogs and other creatures. Learn about the history of poison – arsenic, herbs and roots, and how each culture utilized them for hundreds of years. I was fascinated by the Mad Hatter section, I didn’t realize they earned that name because they were actually really erratic. And that was due to the chemicals used in the hats they made. NHMUCal’s favorite part were the three poison scene stations. Sit at an iPad and discover clues as to how a person or animal got poisoned. Make your guess and see if you’re right. He sat here for a long, long time!NHMUSince the Artifact wall goes up three stories, each level gives you a new look.NHMUMy personal favorite part were these large boxes full of minerals and gemstones. NHMUAfter the tour we had lunch at their Museum Cafe. The chef has 20+ years experience Internationally and in NYC and everything was so delicious. Tons of Gluten Free options. Everything locally sourced when possible and darling food for the kids.IMG_1544Thanks to NHMU for the awesome afternoon!! We will definitely be back for one of their awesome Summer camps, they also host birthday parties and have activities galore all Summer long! Read up on their activities here.
