cladding dining nook DIY

Timber cladding is huge in European and Scandinavian building. It’s typically thin strips of wood either raised off the surface, or flush, to create dimension and texture. So happy Russ had some time to bang out this for our dining nook! Sharing all the supplies and some general steps if you want to recreate or hire it out! It’s definitely doesn’t require super skills but the right tools, and time will help you do this for MUCH less money than some of the shortcuts or hiring out allow.Timber Cladding DIY | Modern Dining Nook

CEMENT BENCH

Supplies:

Brackets (Russ welded and painted these ones but pre-made like this is great!)

Z Counter Form supplied the countertop concrete, the forms that snap off and the mesh you pour the cement over.

CLADDING

1 inch strips of oak plywood (sanded down) Held in place with wood glue and then a nail gun to secure. He used 23 gauge pen nails which you can hardly see unless actively looking close up! We did a half-inch reveal, meaning half inch between each strip of plywood. We found a random piece of wood and used it as a spacer so it was easy to keep uniformity.

Black paint the wall black so it would have a nice contrast underneath.

That is the gist! Let me know if you have any other questions!! With the new bench dimensions our existing table doesn’t fit anymore, so that is our next step! But it did add about 5-6 more seating spots which is exciting.

A few more inspiration pics of different cladding styles!

Hey! Can you tell a little bit more about the process of the cement bench?? This is such an amazing idea, and I might do this in our breakfast nook! Thank you!
