Book picks for the last few months!
Upstairs at the White House: My Life with the First Ladies by JB West || If the people who made the Crown got on this it would be the greatest show. So many funny and interesting little bits of history. Really enjoyed it!
Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty || This is so well done. I think a must read for someone at the beginning of their mental wellness journey, just diving in. But also, such good reminders and things to recommit to if you’ve been trekking for awhile. The quotes and data and research and backstory behind the Monastic religion and ancient eastern ways was so fascinating. I’d buy this just so I could mark it up and re-read.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir || I loved The Martian movie with Matt Damon which is based off an Andy Weir book, so I was excited for this one! Man, Weir is so inventive and imaginative, but also wicked smart. All the things he created for this story feel totally plausible and scientific. I don’t want to blow any of the story but, loved it!
Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker || The story of one family with 6 Schizophrenic family members. I learned a lot about the history of this illness and it was shocking. I just felt sick the whole time. Similar to how I felt when reading Educated. When siblings are abusing one another and parents are oblivious or in denial, UGH. Well done, but hard.
Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez || READ THIS. It changed my life and how I see the world. It is infuriating but also so validating and everyone has to know its content so we can all do better. 5 Stars.
Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans || Buy Guide gals recommended this and I enjoyed it a lot! Hearing modern retellings of bible stories, how other faiths reconcile some of the same things I wrestle with, and it really does ignite some excitement about the bible! My church cycles through 4 different texts, one per year for our Sunday School studies and the Bible is next year! Definitely got me pumped up.
