parenting anxiousness

Deseret News is currently running a series on anxiety and I think it is SO important. They asked if I would contribute to the series and you can find my essay here. I felt impressed to write how I wish I would’ve been parented when I was a teen with anxiety. So in that essay you’ll find tips and encouragement if you have a loved one dealing with this disorder — I think it applies to any age, they still all certainly apply to me! It breaks my heart to hear statistics of just how rampant this disorder has become … Read more

christmas card 2018

I had a specific purpose with this year’s card and that was to share our new address and send it out quick so our loved ones wouldn’t have to track it down. Chatbooks to the rescue! It says “no place like home for the holidays” and the our address right below! Hidden of course but you get the gist. 😉Their cards are $1 each and include a return address labeled envelope, and can be printed on both sides! Great quality and obviously unreal value. Pretty certain half the cards I’ve received have been Chatbooks! I kept it super simple this … Read more

MIA

Where have I been? Let me tell you! Dress // Shoes // Jacket If you saw the Home Tour on Instagram last week you know that we had a photo and film shoot here at the house for a couple of days! I’m not able to share about it just yet, but it has consumed my thoughts for months! Knowing that I’d need to have the house photo-ready was more overwhelming than I realized when I signed on to do it. Somehow, Russ powered through and had it ready to go by about 2 am the night before. For someone … Read more

self care on a budget

Self Care on a Budget

We really had to tighten up the budget this past year as Russ built the house while and I worked. I cut out virtually every unnecessary purchase. Self-care was definitely on that cut-back list! Luckily I found a few ways to keep caring for myself and actually save money!I cut out highlights at the hair salon, manicures and pedicures, and I was on a complete personal spending freeze (with the exception of refilling make-up.) I shopped similarly for my boys and even though they didn’t care or maybe even notice, they went from having 10 pairs of shoes to 2. … Read more

skin + makeup routine

Everyday products that I have bought + used year after year and a couple new items that worked so well I immediately incorporated them! Happy shopping! FACE: Every 10 -14 days I use the PMD and swear by it. Best investment I’ve ever made for my face! Daily: Run a cotton pad with this Bioderma Micellar Water first. New to this one (Thanks to Kayti! @beyoutybureau) but actually shocked at how well it works. My face hasn’t felt that clean maybe ever. Then wash it with clairsonic + La Roche Posay Gentle Cleanser or an M2 (got it at Spa Trouve … Read more

sunglasses FAQ

This post took far too long to get put up, but she’s here and that’s all that matters, right? Sunglasses. Windows to the soul. JK. But, one of my favorite accessories to buy because it can update your whole outfit. I tend to dress pretty plain, but my accessories all have opinions. Sunnies, shoes, jackets, make-up, jewelry etc. Easy to stay on-trend this way in a less expensive way. So here’s my plan of attack on sunglasses. Trendy styles I buy on the cheap. Styles that I know will have some staying power I put more money into! I have … Read more

hair FAQs

This post has come at a high request so I am glad to finally have it ready to go today! Looking through it seems like a ridiculous amount of hair products, but this is over a week or more time span so I promise it’s not a high maintenance routine! I am the laziest! It’s funny how when my hair was platinum I rarely if ever got questions about it (with the exception of who did the color) and as soon as I went darker it’s been insane. If you’re looking for a head of hair that people want to … Read more

a decade of don’ts

I’ve been blogging for 12+ years now, I can hardly believe it. I blogged on my own before Small Fry launched in 2012 (I won’t link that blog, but it still exists and I should take it down for sure. Ha!) If there’s one thing you can count on me is I am very quick to adopt a new trend, most times at my own peril (as you will see.) But I was looking back in my archives and I can’t help but just love this ol’ gal. She was never afraid, she looked like a fool a lot of … Read more

Keep the Spark Alive

So excited to share with you guys something that has been a year in the making! Last year my schedule just wasn’t lining up so I couldn’t participate but I am so glad Kristel didn’t give up on me. And honestly, I feel like I have so much more to say on the topic this year than I ever would have in the past. And that’s saying a lot considering we’ve been together since high school!Kristel runs the site Wife Complex and then this yearly conference called Keep the Spark Alive. All for women and men who are striving to … Read more

best of 2017

Best of 2017 as it pertains to me and only me. 😉 BEST GAIN: The house! We bought the lot in January of this year. Broke ground in June. Insulation wraps up on January 3rd and then we start sheetrock. This dream has been slow coming and the building will continue to be that way, too. But I love that this is OUR baby. Each day Russ builds it, and I get to watch (and work, too, more on MY projects later!) Such an amazing experience. BEST PERSONAL GAIN: This time last year, I committed myself to working out every … Read more
