head to toe II

You guys loved last week’s skirt post and it got me thinking about a new series! Tell me what you think, but basically I’ll style a few outfits from head to toe each week! If you have outfits you’re trying to shop for drop me a comment or email and I can include it! And for those who asked, for 10 years – most of my twenties – I worked as a stylist! I was a fashion editor for a local magazine and worked with a commercial photographer as his stylist as well. Then I branched off to do freelance for different sites and projects and once I started Small Fry, I closed up shop! It’s been a huge part of my life and I am remembering how much work it really takes! But, so glad you liked last week and if it continues to be helpful I am all over it! So today is for the girls. I picture a spunky little thing who loves to get dressed up but has that tomboy edge, too!

Park Date

head to toe II

These amazing culottes with a tucked in tee! Add these polka dot sneakers that will go with everything and a gingham headband + most darling purse ever. Polka dots gingham and basket purses are all big trends for Spring. Would I wear this outfit? Totally.

Pizza + a Movie

head to toe II Graphic retro tee + gingham trousers. Add in these perfect ankle strap flats and a fun accessory like these cherry clips!

School Day

head to toe II The loose fit on these pants + the fluttery top are a fresh easy going look that I don’t see often on girls, and she will love it! Add in a pop of color with these flats and she’ll feel extra studious with these faux glasses.

Going to a Game With Friends

head to toe II

Dress with classic chucks might be my favorite combo on a little gal. Toss in a (gingham again) hat and these sporty socks peeking out. She’ll be the cutest little slugger in the stands!

A good stylist always has options so here are a few pieces I loved that didn’t make it into the outfits:

spring skirts

I won’t say I have Spring Fever, it’s much too soon for that. But! I am noticing new arrivals and thinking about how I can style them for the cold! So here’s three ways to justify a Spring Skirt no matter what the weather throws at you! Spring Skirts 3 Ways

Spring Skirts 3 Ways

PLEATED SKIRT (comes in orange too, the asymmetrical hem is everything!) Stick it with a plain blouse like this $10! // Top it with this MUST-HAVE SWEATER JACKET // CAT EYE SUNNIES // PERFECT TRIO of NECKLACES

Spring Skirts 3 Ways

POLKA DOT SKIRT (polka dot is huge for Spring!) // WHITE SWEATER // ORANGE JACKET // If I must wear pink its going to be with orange. LOVE the TWO-TONE FLATS // WHITE BROW BAR SUNGLASSES //

Happy Fryday!!

Head to Toe: Kidz Bop

It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Head to Toe post! Life long Small Fry readers might remember the series! We abandoned it because the boys were over modeling and we can’t say we blame them. So, when Kidz Bop’s new line with Crazy 8 came in the mail we figured we’d do a nice flat lay and call it a day. But, when the boys saw the pieces they flipped! The actually wanted to wear them and show them off for you all. That pretty much is all you need to know about the line. Cool enough for kids AND parents to be excited about! Since it’s from Kidz Bop it has little music motifs throughout which we love, too! It’s created for the future music stars, and we certainly have our share of song-and-dance-rs! In fact, we took these yesterday and guess who’s wearing their new duds to school today? Yep, all of ’em. You can check out the whole line (girls too!) right here, but here’s their favorites:

One last love-themed project before we the big day tomorrow! LOVE BOTS! Save your next online shopping score’s box and you can make this one in five minutes or less.

love bots made out of a a cardboard box

Grab some duct tape, scissors and your box and you’re ready to go! Cut out a hole for your kid’s head and arms, serated knives work best for this part, then time to decorate! The best part about striping with duct tape is that it looks precise and clean with minimal effort. Start at the top and work you way down alternating colors. Then grab a contrasting color to add a little heart and time to play!

Alt Summit 2014 Recap

This year we admittedly bit off more than we should chew with our week with Cricut + Alt Summit. With the Cricut Explore Launch Party at the beginning of the week, planning, creating and decorating a sponsor dinner, teaching two roundtables, hosting a craft lounge, we were so swamped! This is no exaggeration, we had time to attend only bits and pieces of a few panels. Why do we do this to ourselves? It’s that “Dream Big” motto we’re always chanting, we suppose.

Alt was such a great opportunity to meet friends we’ve been in correspondence with for the past year. To represent the companies that we believe in like Cricut, and to learn and be inspired by the amazing talent that this genre of publishing represents.

Here’s a few pictures we gathered along the way for those who are interested!

Thursday! Check us out in Flipboard‘s favorite bloggers at Alt picture book. We were dying, and so grateful to be included! They interviewed us too, if you want to read it we’ll post it after the jump!

We were so lucky to have our dear friends Kayti and Ashleigh of the BeYOUty Bureau come up and do our make-up for the evening. They recently launched a inner and outer beauty YouTube page and we’re loving all their tutorials. Subscribe here. And follow along via Instagram here.

That night was Cricut’s huge Green Party. We were sworn to secrecy on the real theme, which was a bug-filled garden party. It was as if you lived in Honey We Shrunk the Kids. Everything was giant and amazing! See all the details here.

Friday was all about the Craft Lounge, we designed and printed the craft using our new Cricut Explore machines, made enough for a house full of Alt attendees, and then crafted the afternoon away! We’ll have the Constellation Garland we created for the lounge available on Cricut’s Design Space at the end of this month!

Small Fry at Alt

Here’s a look at the Lounge Cricut created! This was awesome! We pitched them a storyboard and the idea of “Head in the Clouds” and they executed it. Now that’s the way to do Alt!

Small Fry Cricut Craft LoungeIf you made it this far, congrats! You might be wondering what happened to the Friday mini-parties? We decided it was time to head home and see our families after a long, long week, so we skipped Friday evening’s festivities. Sorry, we know that’s no fun, but we feel great about it!

Small Fry + Cricut Alt Dinner

Our week could’ve started and ended with this dinner. It was such a highlight, we met so many wonderful people, and celebrated an exciting new chapter with our dear friends at Cricut. Here’s a peek at our dinner with Cricut at Caffe Molise in Salt Lake City. (Try the Brown Butter Butternut Squash Ravioli, whoa.) Huge thank you to the amazing Becky Kimball for taking all these beautiful photos! You can catch all the festivities and how everyone has been using the Explore on their #explorecricut hash tag.

Black, White and Green Dinner Party

The menus were hand-written by Cassie from @theprintshop and then Jenna loaded the images into Cricut’s Design Space and this machine simultaneously cut the menu out, and wrote all the text, in one pass. Every letter every flourish was written by the Cricut Explore, tt’s truly remarkable!

Succulents for everyone take home from from the dream world that is Sun River Gardens in Orem, Utah. It’s a beautiful nursery and gift shop and it is our happy place.

Emily, Jenna and Nicole, happily hosting! We had an all-black dress code and everyone looked so chic. Shopping guide after the jump!Black and White party

We loved how these 3 foot balloons from TomKat Studios instantly added a festive feeling to our green table decor.

Becky took a step outside to catch the whole scene. You can catch a little shadowed glimpse of our cloud and rain drop garlands cut with, you guessed it, the Explore!

Our dinner was such a good time. Lively conversation was happening at every turn and friends were made instantly.

A peek at the gift box we had for each guest. It was a killer grouping (see this post for a breakdown of each item), but Cricut’s surprise stole the show…

After dinner we had each guest blow up a balloon, and then pop it!

Surprise Gift hidden in the balloon!

Cheers were shouted, neighboring diners were startled, and we hear even a few tears were shed. We totally get it, for an avid crafter, a small business owner, for someone who just wants an easy way to make a project happen, the Cricut Explore truly changes the game. It makes your wildest creative dreams a reality, and as you’ll see over the next year of posts, we’ve had an absolute ball incorporating it into our crafting and blog content.

Guests react to their free Explore!

We weren’t sure how long we would be able to dine with Cricut’s inspiring CEO, Asish. Luckily we showed him a good enough time that he stayed the whole evening with us! His career and background are impressive to say the least, so when he says that bringing Cricut to this new level of creativity as a lifestyle has been his favorite project so far is so exciting!

To the awesome staff at Caffe Molise, our second family at Cricut, and our thirty incredible guests, THANK YOU! We hope you had as great a night as we did!

mad for plaid

When we asked everyone via our Facebook page what you’d like to see more of, fashion and style was the most popular answer! We love it too, so we totally get it. After 30+ posts in our Head to Toe series, our boys are, understandably, over modeling. So, we’re excited about our fashion round-ups this year, having more flexibility to add girl’s clothes, and the boys excited about the break! We’ll be picking from our favorite trends, upcoming holidays and special occasions, and of course, if you ever have a concept you’re in the mood for, just let us know!

Today we’re paying homage to our love affair with plaid. This year it has shown up in unexpected ways and here’s some of our favorites!

from head to toe: czesiociuch

It’s usually about this time each year where the consistent 100+ degree days start to wear on us and the back to school supplies start to fill the aisles of our grocery stores that we get that familiar craving for Fall. The crisp air and chilly nights carry their own special brand of fun and of course who can resist the warm layers and cozy knits? Polish brand Czesiouciuch is quickly becoming our go-to for the upcoming cooler temperatures. Pronounced “Tche-seeo-chookh” (we’re still not super clear on it, either) and filled with ultra-hip unisex pieces that are unbelievably high quality.

From Head to Toe: Mini Mioche

We are so happy to feature our Canadian favorite, Mini Mioche today! Mini Mioche is an awesome boutique filled with wonderful pieces, gifts and toys. Each item of clothing is soft as silk, and simply darling. They have it all figured out when it comes to perfectly easy clothing!

Made and manufactured in Toronto, Canada, Mini Mioche is as eco-friendly as they come. Fair wage, and organic cottons, using re-usable and low-impact dyes, printing tags and catalogs on recycled material, and skipping extra packaging whenever possible, they’re commitment is commendable and inspiring.

You’ll see more of our boys in Mini Mioche soon, but for now, how cute is Zoey in their romper and Grandpa cardigan?! Small Fry | Mini Mioche

Here are some more of our favorites for girls and boys, and those with a keen eye, your eyes are not deceiving you. They have the ever elusive, all but sold out Natives shoes! minic-mioche-collage

To understand our undying love for Mini Mioche, you might need a little backstory. A few Summers ago we stumbled upon the amazing kids’ shoe brand, Natives. These little shoes quickly turned into a Summer staple, with their easy upkeep, bright colors, and cute designs, it’s really the only shoe a little boy (or girl) needs. Each Summer a new set would be purchased, and with every size outgrown a replacement would be quickly switched out. So earlier this Spring while we were waiting with anticipation for their new line to come out, weeks and months went by and nothing was showing up. We stalked Twitter feeds and Facebook updates, seeing the launch dates pushed back time and again. Small shipments would arrive and sell out in hours.

Maybe it was all that good eco-friendly karma Mini Mioche has been putting out there, but they seem to be the only boutique you can find Natives, at all! So, needless to say, hurry over! See their Natives collection here. If you needed any more push to peek at Mini Mioche their 30% off Summer sale is bound to do the trick!
