fall things

Fall is really doing it for me currently. The comforting food and soups and desserts are hitting the spot, the option for some baggy knits and layering on this not quite pregnant looking but still growing body, and the let-up on the scorching heat that never mixed well with the nausea. WELCOME FALL, I LOVE YOU.

Updating my life to fit accordingly and wanted to share some finds!

fall maternity look

One Fall Trend I have my laser focus on is lace-up boots! I love them all, whether it’s a Victorian-esque heeled boot, or a chunkier soled combat style. I bought these in black which were a great price and super comfortable, no lie, even though they’ve got a substantial heel. They have several colors and options for patent leather or suede. They are in between mid-calf and ankle which is perfect for what I have them planned for.lace-up boot outfit

I love the Straight leg jean styled with these boots! So cute and I love that there’s no leg showing, with the hem of the jean over the boot’s shaft. These boots look identical and I’d bet money the jeans are The Wedgie.

Via this pin.straight leg jean + lace up boot

Combat Style I LOVE the platform style of these, but found them in a burgundy red for a deal and went for this style instead!

You all know my answer to on-trend dressing is to update accessories. I keep my wardrobe pretty classic and use shoes, accessories, jewelry and make-up to do the talking. A deep red nail polish and a berry or burgundy lip instantly transport you to a new season even if you’re wearing a t-shirt and jeans!

A couple trends I’ve spotted and dig are the paperclip chain necklace, and a new shopping spot (for me) for designer sunnies at a discount! I won’t wear nice sunglasses in the Summer, I’m harder on them at the pool, park, on-the-go, so I save them for the colder months when I don’t have as many chances to ruin them. I got these Dior pair as an edgy option and love them for Fall!

JEANS – If you’re in the maternity market like me I picked up these two pairs of maternity pants and have been so impressed! This coated denim looking pair is super stretchy but holds shape and has a full panel. It also has an adjustable waist (like kids pants with the elastic belt-loops + buttons! Perfect for a growing belly!

I also got this straight leg pair to help me execute some of Fall looks I’m inspired by. Still TBD if that shape is flattering on me or not. HA. Linked everything I’m sharing below!

Is this nesting mode coming around early? Loving updating a few things around the house, too! Bedding for my room (so overdue, ours is on its last leg) a few new pillows, comfy-fying our basement which I’ll be sure to share once things arrive.

trend watch: track pants

I don’t know if this trend was big in the Spring, I didn’t notice if it was, but I sure am noticing it now! Whether it’s a casual track pant or a formal tuxedo pant or something in between, this pant is so fun for Fall! So here’s 9 ways I spotted and loved it.I loved this outfit so much I had to recreate it. That doesn’t happen often for me, I am usually trying to make it my own. But this one was too good:Fall 2017 Trend Watch: Track PantPretty blatant copyage here, yeah?

Fall 2017 Trend Watch: Track PantRue Collective // Gucci Sweatshirt Girl // Ray Dennis // 9 to 5 Chic // Leandra Medine // Olivia Palermo // Christine of Hello Fashion Blog // Not Your Standard // Jennifer Aniston

Okay back to the trend at hand! Here are versions of the tuxedo stripe and or track pant all under $80 (most much less than that!) I think the jeans are my favorite. They’re on super sale right now, too!Cropped Black with White // Denim Tux Stripe // Adidas Popper // Black with Red + White // Floral with Black // Black with White Trouser

  1. Toss on a tee and top with a blazer + booties and you’ve got the look I had to copy. My blazer is Target, and booties are Zara. If you want more sporty and less trouser these are awesome and so classic.
  2. 2. Wear it with an oversized sweater and sneakers for a cozy cold weather day.
  3. Tucked in turtleneck + slick low bun for a super polished look.
  4. With a crisp button up and a jean jacket on top.
  5. All black everything with a tee and leather jacket.

Did you guys know I used to be a stylist? For 10 years! I worked for a commercial photographer, as a fashion editor for a local magazine, and then freelance for awhile for various projects and friends like Say Yes! What I really love about that job is sourcing clothes and I still do a lot of that now for “work” ahem, if you can call it that. But, since I am doing it anyway, if you guys ever have a look you want to recreate, send it my way! I’d love to shop for you! Send it via email or DM too.

Certified Fair Trade Woven Tote

Photos by Hunter Fowler.

Petunia Pickle Bottom killing the game once again! They sent this amazing tote my way to celebrate their launch of the new Certified Fair Trade Woven Tote! It JUST went live so hurry over and grab them as they anticipate a quick sell out. (Also let it be known I made it 5 years without putting fresh flowers in a purse, that has to be some kind of blogging record. 😉Petunia Pickle Bottom Tote

Each tote is hand-woven and unique, its got a ton of room inside and its really sturdy. Woven bags can feel fragile, this is not one of those bags. There are two woven interior bottle pockets, easily transitioning to water bottle pockets or cups of soda, fresh florals, whatever your pleasure. Petunia Pickle Bottom ToteThis darling little drawstring backpack drops right in or you can bring it separately-  perfect for storing toys, or diaper changing gear, or your personal belongings to swap in and out of bags. It comes with their PPB branded wipes case – this one is opaque so you can tell when you’re running out, a removable washable changing pad. The shoulder straps drop down inside the bag so its easy to store. And it comes with these leather stroller staps so you can go hands free when you’re out and about.Petunia Pickle Bottom Tote

Don’t forget the Pom Pom. Spot on color palette and such great accessory to edge out this pretty bag!Petunia Pickle Bottom Tote

Petunia Pickle Bottom has the whole diaper bag thing on lock and they always think of details I’m so glad to have. I used their Pathway Pack the last year and have loved it and am thrilled to carry this chic woven bag for Summer! No one would ever guess it was a diaper bag, that is for sure!Petunia Pickle Bottom Tote RUN RUN RUN to grab this bag – you can find it here!

ROMWE faves

After our post yesterday we realized some of you babes have yet to discover Romwe! There are probably lots of shops just like this but we’ve had great luck with them. Their sizing, collection and info have rarely steered us wrong. What is Romwe? It’s basically your ticket to China. Instead of buying these items through a big box store or a boutique, get them straight from the source at incredibly cheap prices. Like nothing is over $30. Sweet! Here’s some more faves on top of the items we wore in yesterday’s post! Also for those who asked the platform oxfords in today’s Instagram are right here.

Its such a great spot to find something bold like this COLOR BLOCK JACKET or this TASSEL MUSTARD version. //

fall transitions

This post is brought to you by Zappos.

This month with Zappos we are sharing Fall Transition pieces. We love easy purchases that help update our existing wardrobes for a new season! Here’s what we picked, keep reading to get the scoop!zapposfallNICOLE:

It might sound like a silly transition but walk with me… Summertime I wear the largest sunglasses possible. We’re all worried about wrinkles, right? I feel a little bit more protected from that harsh sun with that extra coverage. As soon as it starts to cool down and the sun isn’t so strong, I pull my more minimal frames back out! These also fit right in with all the 90’s throwback styles which are EVERY.WHERE.!Fall TransitionI love both of these classic Ray-Ban frames. The gold frame is so great for everyday or dressing up. And then the tortoise is perfectly casual and cool. Fall TransitionYou honestly can’t go wrong with Ray-Bans, they’ve been around and in style since 1937. Not going anywhere! And if you have any issues, Zappos has 365 Day Returns. Not joking.Fall TransitionJENNA:

I’ve been eyeing these Free People Royale beauties for months and finally pulled the trigger now that Fall is upon us. And yes those are the Le Spec Princes and yes I havethem in three colors now. They’re KILLER!Fall TransitionLiving in California “Fall” doesn’t really mean anything, but I still like to dress accordingly. 😉 These have that ankle bootie feel but they’re not hot. Super comfortable and flattering too. I recommend to all!Fall TransitionFree People always does great at essential shoes with a twist. Find them all here!Fall Transition

I am so excited for Fall so I can get away with all-black-everything without roasting! Even when you drop the pounds post-baby, your (or at least my) body is still super different. Fall TransitionNow there’s lumps and bumps and the shape I’m used to is a little bit skewed and things just don’t always fit the way they used to. So black makes me feel slimmed and polished even if I don’t feel it underneath. All black everything needs a killer shoe to keep things interesting! I saw these Vince Camuto Ossie pumps and died. The studs! The D’Orsay toe shape! Fall TransitionThey’re so sexy and feel like a shoe I’d wear forever. The little studs give it the edge I love too. They’re from his special occasion line “Imagine” but I love these with an everyday look. Fall Transition

What pieces are you loving for your Summer to Fall wardrobe?

rachel zoe!

By Nicole.

This month with Zappos they are spotlighting Rachel Zoe! You can catch her brand lookbook and the most darling video with her and Rog (we can call you that right, Roger?) RIGHT HERE!

We love her and were stoked to get these darling sandals for Summer! They come in black and white and how can anyone choose between the two?! Rachel Zoe Zappos They go flawlessly with any classic combo and hold their own with more showy pieces too! Can’t wait to wear this outfit, too!Rachel Zoe ZapposThat hit of metallic takes these sandals to the next level, don’t you think?Rachel Zoe ZapposAs always Zappos has a million brand options to choose from and here’s what Emily and Jenna picked for Summertime!

Emily loves to try out new trends and the lace-up gladiator sandals are everywhere this Summer! Try it all the way up to the knee or just a few wraps around the ankle, either way you have a fun option for all those Summer dresses and cut-offs!ZapposThese ones are Matisse and on the more affordable end of the spectrum which is great when you just want to try out a new trend but not necessarily invest. We also love these ones too — Aldo Marianne (tassel alert!) and Seychelles Enterprise.ZapposThis dress was a super cool find, it’s made of the perfect Summer material, almost like an under armour type. With the perfect amount of spandex so it holds its shape and is still breathable. The pockets are always the perfect touch, too! // Also rocking the Ray-Ban Aviator in Red/Orange. These are always such a great accessory especially in the Summer!ZapposSince its not quite warm enough for swimwear we won’t make Jenna model hers just yet although she looks incredible. So for now, here’s her picks for swimwear!Zappos Swim

fall bootie, two ways!

We are sharing two transitional Fall outfits today with Clark’s shoes and boots line at Zappos! You can see other ways we love to use Zappos here, but today is all about the bootie! Clarks Boots Two Ways
If you need to feel instantly chic, I always opt for black on black. You’ve heard it all before, its slimming, polished, I love to add a full turtle or mock neck when the temperatures drop. All these have become cliche because it’s true!
Clarks Boots Two Ways
This Pita Sedona (Chelsea style) boot is such a classic, and I love that it can be dressed up or down and works perfectly. I couldn’t decide between the black and tan, probably just going to do both, let’s get real. Team Clark’s!
Clarks Boots Two Ways
Gosh I love Fall! I about died when I spotted these beautiful Taupe leather Marquette boots.  They have an elastic back piece that makes them super easy to get on and off without effecting the look of the leather. They’re classified as taupe but they have enough gray undertones that they go with just about anything.Clarks Boots Two WaysAlso, one sweater style I’ve been picking up left and right is the sleeveless knit. I love that when it’s topped with a jacket anyone would guess it was a regular sweater, so it feels totally Fall appropriate, but you don’t have the bulk of the arms! Perfect for layering! And then when you move from outside in, you can easily shed some layers and be comfortable no matter how toasty you’re keeping your thermostat. Also, gotta have these destroyed black jeans and more leather.
Clarks Boots Two Ways
Thanks to Zappos for partnering on this post! We love you Zappos!

Everyday Mamattire

We sent Emily over to Say Yes to share her favorite everyday “Momiform” or Mamattire as we’ve coined it here on Small Fry, as well as her thoughts on style as a mom.  Check out the post, but first, hear all about Jenna and Nicole’s looks as well! It’s funny how the three of us shop at pretty much the same stores, even buying a lot of the same pieces, but we put them together so differently. We all have our own voice and that translates into our everyday attire as well as what we feel comfortable in day-to-day.

Everyday Look | Small Fry

I live for an all black look. It’s still winter here in Utah (boo!) so I’m holding on to this typical uniform of mine until there are brighter skies, which call for brighter colors! Black is so incredible because you can buy several different pieces and they all (obviously) go together like a dream. As a busy mom I’m often the last in the house to get ready and don’t have a ton of time or energy to worry about what matches and if I look put together. With an all black look I can be confident that my outfit will be both functional and stylish. I love to find embellished tops (this Zara – sold out! Similar here.) to give my look some dimension and show off my sense of style. Also it’s crucial to buy a staple pair of black pants. I’m always a fan of waxed with a zipper. And because I’m a working mom it’s really important that my look be able to transition from sticky hands to work meetings with the grab of my carry-all (F21, sold-out, similiar) and all black does just the job!

To finish off this look, or any of my looks recently, I turn to my favorite boot, the Sam Edelman Petty. It’s beautiful and on trend but truly I could walk costco for hours in it! Also I am obsessed with this shade of nude lipstick from Loreal. Drugstore finds are always welcome!

Everyday Look | Small Fry

For me a great outfit is one that transitions from day to night, where with a simple addition like the white jacket and heels make it dinner party appropriate. Like the rest of my team, we all love coated trousers. They’re slimming, wipe down easily, and add a little extra something to even the most simple ensembles.  These metallic toe heels are actually quite comfortable, with only a few inches height. Mine are sold out but here’s a pretty good replica, or this simple suede pump looks amazing! Quite possibly my favorite feature of any outfit is my recently new cut hair. I had long, long hair for so long that cutting it was such a fresh feeling. It also allows me to wear and enjoy things like this funnel neck jacket, a great neck-line on a top statement necklaces and earrings (love these!) and they seem to stand out more, versus get over powered by my hair.

mom fall threads mom fall threads fallthreads1

Here’s Stacey’s review: “The bag was great because it could hold all my essentials from toys, snacks, and diapers for Franklin, to filling it with our apples, Frankie’s baby pumpkin, and then my interior design materials when going to a home consultation. It is such good quality, and the leather is so soft. It is stylish and doesn’t come off as a baby bag. It is functional and stylish at the same time, and big enough to hold just about anything!”

We love the red bag and how it adds color to the popular neutral color schemes that are so on trend this Fall! So now that yo’ve seen it in action, are you ready to win? This bag retails for $375 and boy do you deserve it!
